Kala azar

Kala azar is a parasitic disease spread by the bite of the sand fly at the start of the rainy season. It mostly affects (and often kills) young children. Those who survive childhood have usually survived kala azar.
The work of the Sudan TB Project has saved hundreds of kala azar patients and contributed to the knowledge of the disease.
